Ever wondered what the kampong days were like? Simple joys, sweltering heat and a sense of gotong royong (or community spirit). Ask our directors Ros, Jenny, and Joey and they can tell you first-hand; each of those things are true.
We’ve been busy. Our production teams have been darting around Singapore – from the tip of Lim Chu Kang, to the depths of Clementi Forest, to the villages of Pulau Ubin – all for our latest series of films, It Starts With You.
A four-part (English, Mandarin, Malay and Tamil) short film series for our national vaccination campaign; It Starts With You weaves together the stories of 3 families, bound by friendship, as they take the lessons learnt from BCG vaccination in 1975 to the modern-day.
Film director Ros helmed All For One in English– a stroll down memory lane with 3 elderly friends who, on the day of their Covid-19 vaccination, reminisce events that transpired almost 50 years ago.
Meanwhile, directors Jenny and Joey teamed up to direct the Mandarin film, No Need – a moving father-son tale of bravery and compassion.
Our directors were not alone in this ambitious venture. In order to bring the stories of Ming, Musa, and Malar to life; the freeflow team collaborated with two other directors.
The talented Tariq Mansor directed Ponteng in Malay – a story in which young Musa discovers unconditional love underneath his father’s stern exterior.
The Tamil film, For Me, was directed by local film veteran Don Aravind. In For Me, Malar is a precocious child who learns the importance of taking responsibility for those around her.
As Singapore and the world races towards vaccination; remember that it isn’t just about keeping yourself safe. More importantly, it’s about keeping others safe.
